Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Schreiber, who missed two months last season due to a shoulder strain, arrived early to Red Sox camp to get his arm in shape for 2024. A month later, the 29-year-old was traded to Kansas City, where he figures to serve in high-leverage and join the Royals mix for save opportunities. Schreiber is capable of pitching multiple innings and is versatile enough to serve as an opener should the Royals elect to deploy him that way. The right-hander's walk rate spiked to 12.3 percent last year, thus inflating his WHIP, but his career mark is 8.8 percent. Some positive regression in that category will better define which role he settles into within the Kansas City bullpen. Schreiber has expressed he feels great and is fully healthy, so that's certainly a positive for his 2024 prospects. Read Past Outlooks

Handed loss Friday
Schreiber (3-1) allowed three runs on three hits over one-third of an inning, taking the loss Friday versus the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Schreiber got the final out of the seventh inning but put three straight batters on base to begin the eighth. James McArthur relieved him and couldn't stop the Padres' rally in what ended up being a nine-run frame. After looking like one of the Royals' most dominant relievers in April, Schreiber posted a much worse 6.52 ERA and 2.17 WHIP over 9.2 innings in May. He's at a decent 3.00 ERA on the year, but his 1.33 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB over 24 innings are concerning, as he's giving up too many hits and striking out too few batters. Schreiber has a save and 14 holds on the year while operating in a setup role.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Possibility for saves
Kenley Jansen was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday after he tested positive for the virus, and Schreiber is a strong candidate to pitch in save opportunities until Jansen returns.
ANALYSIS
Jansen is set to be sidelined for about a week, leaving a handful of games where potential saves are up for grabs. Schreiber has one save and 11 holds with a 3.38 ERA and 45:20 K:BB over 40 innings this season, and he saved eight games for Boston in 2022. Chris Martin should also be in the mix but pitched in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader versus the Yankees, which likely lines up Schreiber for the save chance in the nightcap should the opportunity arise.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
After beginning his career in the Tigers organization, Schreiber was scooped up by Boston prior to the 2021 season. He spent most of that year in the minors, then failed to break camp with the Red Sox in 2022 despite an impressive spring. The right-hander made his season debut in late April and ripped off 11 straight appearances without allowing an earned run, spanning 12 innings. Schreiber tallied two wins, a save and three holds during that streak to instantly become one of Boston's primary high-leverage anchors. He'd tack on another 19-game scoreless streak before the All Star break and finished the year with a 2.22 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 74:19 K:BB over 65 innings. To add to that impressive line, he also racked up 22 holds and tied for the team lead with eight saves. After a breakout year in high leverage, Schreiber should once again get plenty of holds while setting up for newcomer Kenley Jansen.
