2024 Fantasy Outlook
Kinley has made more than 25 appearances just twice in six seasons, as injuries have been a constant throughout his career. The right-hander opened last season on the 60-day IL after undergoing elbow surgery in July 2022. He was activated last August and struggled through seven appearances before returning to the injured list with elbow inflammation. Upon his return in September, Kinley was given the opportunity to close for the Rockies, converting a career-high five saves. His upper-90's 4-seamer wasn't effective (.500 BA, .875 SLG), so he'll need to regain some confidence in that secondary offering this spring. Assuming health entering 2024, Kinley should be in Colorado's mix to close again, but health and performance make him a risky bet for double-digit saves. Read Past Outlooks

Records another save
Kinley earned a save against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter over one scoreless inning.
ANALYSIS
Kinley entered with Colorado holding a one-run lead in the ninth inning and allowed a one-out double to Brendan Donovan, but he was able to close out the contest without further trouble. The right-hander was pretty sharp in throwing 10 of 13 pitches for strikes. Kinley has now picked up each of Colorado's past two saves while Jalen Beeks -- who leads the club with six saves on the campaign -- has notched a hold in both of those contests. It's worth noting that Beeks has blown four saves this season while Kinley is a perfect 4-for-4 in save chances despite owning a 7.71 ERA. It appears Kinley may be the slight favorite for ninth-inning opportunities moving forward, though that's far from certain given the rockiness of Colorado's bullpen as a whole.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Out longer than expected?
Kinley is dealing with an elbow injury but recent MRI results were not encouraging and he could be out longer than expected, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Kinley got the results back from the MRI on Monday and the Rockies now believe he will be out longer than they initially hoped, which is a blow to the team's relief corps since he posted a 0.75 ERA across 24 innings before landing on the injured list. He'll consult a surgeon this week whose specialties include Tommy John surgery, among other areas, and while the Rockies have yet to make a decision, things do not look good for the 31-year-old right-hander.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2018
Kinley is an arm to watch in the Rockies' bullpen. The ERA over 5.00 makes him easy to overlook, but Kinley can throw the heater at close to 96 mph average, and the four-seamer is not even his primary pitch. He uses his slider as the No. 1, throwing it close to 60% of the time, and that offering was dominant for him in 2020. Major leaguers combined to hit just .106 against the right-hander's breaking ball and the pitch had a whiff rate north of 40%, per Statcast. Control is a piece that's missing right now; Kinley had a 12.5 BB% last season (career 15.0%). Those walks and the home park will keep Kinley under the radar for the foreseeable future. In draft-and-hold leagues and NL-only, Kinley should be considered for a bench spot. The underlying skills portend better results and there is opportunity for advancement in Colorado.
