Morales has had huge raw power for a while, but there were major hit tool concerns entering the draft. The Nationals took him out of Miami with the 40th overall pick. He hit .349 with a 19.1 K% while climbing from rookie ball to Double-A in 42 games. Strangely, he had 16 doubles, three triples and zero homers. That pro debut is doing all the heavy lifting with his FYPD appeal, but it was a small sample against tired pitching. Double-A Harrisburg placed Morales on its 7-day injured list Tuesday due to a thumb injury, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old was injured Saturday on a play at home plate as he tried to score on a wild pitch. Morales has having a tepid start to the season, slashing .238/.315/.346 with two home runs in 37 games for Harrisburg, but the 2023 second-round pick might be able to use the time off to clear his head and refocus. There's no timeline for Morales' return to the Harrisburg lineup.
