To start the program click on your Start button and select Programs --> RotoWire Draft Software --> RotoWire MLB Draft Software.
The first time the program starts it will ask you to create a new draft or auction. After this auction is created then you can
edit all of the draft/auction details.
Getting Started Main Menu
To start the program click on your Start button and select Programs --> RotoWire Draft Software --> RotoWire MLB Draft Software.
The first time the program starts it will ask you to create a new draft or auction. After this auction is created then you can
edit all of the draft/auction details.
You will be able to choose the draft/auction that you want to open the next time you start the software.
League Setup Main Menu
You can edit the league setup by selecting Edit --> Draft/Auction Settings from the top main menu.
League Style: Choose either a rotisserie or points style league. A rotisserie league ranks all teams based on specific categories.
A points league assigns specific points to each category.
League Used: Choose whether you use AL player, NL players or players from both leagues. If your league limits the free agent pool
to specific teams then select the 'Select From List' radio button and click on the 'Click Here to Select Teams' button. This will open
a window which will allow you to select specific teams. Only players currently on those teams and players not on any team will
be displayed in the free agent grid.
Player Eligibility: Add the number of games that a player needs to have played at a position last season in order to qualify at that
position. This minimum games requirement will be used when you filter the free agent list. By default, only players who qualify at
a specific position will be displayed when the free agent list is filtered by that position. Players who do not qualify at any position
because they have not played enough games will not show up when the list is filtered by a position. You can change this by clicking on
"Edit Eligibility Options" and clicking the "List players with no major league games played at their set positions". This will allow for
minor league players to be listed at a position even if they don't meet the minimum games played requirement.
Hitting and Pitching Categories: Select the categories that you wish to use for your league. If you have selected 'Fantasy Points' for
your league style then you will be able to add a points value for each category. You can use decimals and negative numbers for
this value.
League Details Main Menu
Draft Style: Choose whether your league uses a draft or an auction to select players. If your league uses a draft then you can set it up
for either a snake style draft or a straight draft. A snake style draft moves in the opposite direction for each round, first to last then last to first.
A straight draft moves in one direction, first to last, during all rounds.
Salary Cap: If you choose 'Auction' for your draft style then you can enter the amount of money each team will have to spend on players. You
can add or subtract from the amount any one team begins the draft with by clicking on the 'Edit Starting Dollar Amount by Team' button.
If you changed your salary cap then be sure to click the 'Apply' button at the bottom before adjusting the team dollar amounts.
If your league buys reserve players during the auction then click on the "My League Buys Reserve Roster Spots" check box. This will force
the software to use all roster spots to calculate the remaining dollars for each team and not just the active roster spots.
Min Bid: Enter the minimum bid amount that your league uses for your auction. You can use decimal amounts in this field.
Team Setup Main Menu
Add the number of teams that are in your league. Try to set up the correct number of teams that your league will have even if
you are not completely sure of the owner's names yet. You can always go back and change the team names without affecting the draft/auction.
Click the radio button next to your team. If you are in a draft style league then set the draft order.
WARNING: Adding or Deleting teams will reset your draft or auction to the beginning. You will lose all of the players who have been
added to teams up to this point.
Roster Setup Main Menu
Enter the number of players who are ACTIVE on your roster at each position. This would be the positions that you start in your league.
Use the 'RES' spot to indicate the total number of reserves that you use. This would include reserve spots, IR spots, minor league spots or
any other roster spots that are not included in your starting lineup. If you have specific starting pitcher and relief pitcher spots then
use SP and RP to designate those spots. If your pitcher spots can be either starting or relief then use AP for all of your pitching
spots.
Main View Tab Main Menu
Free Agent List: This is a list of all available free agents in your draft/auction. It displays all of the categories used in your league as
well as the calculated dollar value or rank, player age, position, AB for hitters and IP for pitchers. You can sort the list by any of the
column headers by clicking on them. Filter the list by using the position buttons above the list. Click on the year or 'Proj' to show
last year's stats or the RotoWire.com projections.
Clicking on any of these players will
bring that player to view in the Info Window located in the top left corner. This window displays the player's 2009 outlook, the latest news
for that player and his stats/projection. You need to log into your RotoWire.com account and must have a current subscription in order
to view this information.
You can add a player to a team in your league by double-clicking on a player in this list or by right-clicking on the player and selecting 'Add to Team'.
This will bring up a window listing the teams in your league along with basic info on the player.
Right-clicking on the player will also allow you to highlighting players as either green (sleeper) or red (bust). This is the
suggested system, but you can use the colors for any reason. Remove the color for the player by right-clicking on the players and selecting the same
color code.
Clicking on the double-arrow button will expand the free agent window and allow you to write and view individual notes for each player. These
notes are global for all drafts/auctions.
You can view all of the team rosters in the lower right window. Use the drop down team menu to select a team. The default team listed will
be the team that was selected as "Mine" from the league setup window. Double-click on a player to move that player to another team,
change the dollar value of that player, or drop him from that team.
Click on the "View All" button to view the rosters for all of the teams in your league in one view.
Click on the "Notes" button in the top right corner to display a field where you can write notes about this draft/auction. Click on the
"Drafted" button to view a list of all players drafted or bought in your league.
If you are in an auction league then dollar values will be shown in the free agent window. These dollar values are calculated on a system that
we've developed which uses the player's projection along with positional scarcity. You can increase or decrease the emphasis put on each
category in the calculation by selecting "Edit --> Dollar Value Settings" from the top main menu.
Click on the 'Inflation' check box before clicking 'Update' to rerun the dollar values in order to view inflation dollar values for your
league. When you use inflation, the dollar values are calculated based on the total amount of money remaining in the auction and the total
number of roster spots remaining. For example, if someone pays $10 for a player who should be $40 then the dollar values for the remaining
players will increase. This is commonly used in keeper leagues, but you can check it out throughout your auction.
Use the player search field at the top of the software to locate a player, add a player to a team, or view the latest news on a player.
Clicking on "News" after typing in a player name will bring that player to the top of the free agent list.
Player Research Tab Main Menu
This tab allows you to view and sort a number of different stats for various player pools. Selecting 'Available' will only show players
who are currently available in your league. Selecting 'Taken' will show just players who have been drafted or bought at auction in your
league. This view will also show where the player was taken in the draft or how much was paid for the player as well as where he was ranked
or what his dollar value was originally. Selecting 'Both' will show all of the players in the system.
Projected Standings Tab Main Menu
Clicking on the "Update Standings" button will calculate the standing in your league based on the players currently on each team. This can
be very useful to see where you stand in comparison to the rest of the teams in your league in each category. Checking the "Use Reserves"
check box will cause players listed in reserve spots to be used in the standings calculation.
Category Targets Tab Main Menu
This tab allows you to enter specific targets that you wish to achieve during your draft/auction. Clicking on "Update Targets" will calculate
how far under or over you are based on the players currently on your team. This can allow you to figure out which categories you need to
target.
Adding Players to Teams Main Menu
You can add players to teams from a number of different windows. From the Main View Tab, you can double-click on a player in
the free agent list or right-click on a player and select 'Add to Team' from the free agent list. You can search for a player and click on the
'Add Player' button. From the Depth Charts view, you can right-click on a player and select 'Add to Team'. From the Player Research Tab, you
can double click on a player when the list is filtered by 'Available'.
Adjusting Category Emphasis Main Menu
Adjusting the category emphasis is a very important part of the software. Select Edit --> Category Emphasis Settings to bring up the window to adjust the
settings. The first part of this window will allow you to adjust the emphasis on hitting or pitching.
The default is to spend 70% on hitting and 30% on pitching or to emphasize hitting more than pitching in draft leagues. You can adjust this to any split that you want. Lower down on the window you will
see a list of all of the categories with a value next to them. Changing the value that is associated with each category will allow you to
emphasize or de-emphasize a specific category. A value of '0' means no emphasis at all. These values can range from -99 to 99, with a higher
positive number indicating a greater emphasis. This can be very valuable if you want to try a system that punts a specific category or if you
in keeper league and you've kept a number of players who are very high in one category. In those situations you may want to get dollar values or rankings
that de-emphasize a specific category. For example, let's say that you kept four players from last season who are all very good base stealers.
You may want to lower the emphasis on steals by putting a -50 next to that category because you don't feel that you need to buy more
steals during the auction. Steals will still be accounted for in the dollar value formula, but players who get most of their value from stealing
bases will drop in value. Likewise, if you feel that getting high batting average guys during your auction is the best way to win your league then
you may want to increase the value of the batting average category by putting a 20 next to that category. You can play around with these values
and click 'Apply' to see the dollar values change in the free agent list.
Adding Keepers Main Menu
Add keepers prior to your draft/auction by selecting Players --> Add Keepers from the top main menu. This will open a window
where you can add players to each team. If you are in an auction league then you can add a dollar amount to each keeper as well.
These players will show up on the team rosters with a 'Keepers' designation.
Updating Projections/Depth Charts Main Menu
Click on Projections --> Update Projections from the top main menu. This will bring up a window which will allow you to update the projections
and the depth charts which are displayed in the software. This window will also tell you what date the projections are updated through. Follow the
instructions on this window to either update the projections/depth charts online or download a file to update the projections. The depth charts
can only be updated through the online process. You must have a paid subscription to RotoWire.com in order to update your projections and depth charts.
Editing Projections Main Menu
Click on Projections --> Edit Projections to bring up a window that will allow you to edit projections. Double-click on a player in
this window to edit his projection. Edited projections will remain in the system even after you update with newer projections. You will need to click on
'Clear All Manual Edits' or double-click on a specific player and click the 'Clear Projection Edits' button to get rid of the edited projection for
that player. You will need to update your projections after doing this.
Depth Charts Main Menu
This window shows the latest depth chart information from RotoWire.com. It is updated whenever you update your projections online. You can filter for
specific position by clicking on the position buttons. Players who have already been selected in your draft/auction will be shown in gray. You can
add a player to a team in your league from this window by right-clicking on the player and selecting 'Add to Team'.
