2023 Fantasy Outlook
The Danish driver had difficulties finishing in the points during the latter half of the 2022 season after starting off strong with three Top-10 finishes in the first four races. But alongside Haas' many mechanical issues last year- leading to five different DNFs out of 22 race starts for Magnussen- the driver of the No. 20 found it difficult to continuously outperform his younger teammate Mick Schumacher following the summer break. Despite his performance struggles, however, a wet qualifying session at the Brazil Grand Prix brought Magnussen (and Haas, by extension) his first-ever pole position in Formula One, and a moment to be remembered fondly in the years to come. Magnussen urgently needs a good season going into 2023, both for the sake of his own confidence and for the benefit of his team; with any luck, Haas will have remedied the issues with the VF-22 that plagued the Dutchman throughout the 2022 season and Magnussen will be able to put up some good points for the team this year. Magnussen finished 12th in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix Formula 1 race at Imola on Sunday afternoon.
ANALYSIS
A poor qualifying effort would put Magnussen 18th on the starting grid at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. The Haas F1 veteran would be forward minded though and do a long opening stint to lap 37. Magnussen would grab a lot of track position with this tactic. On the backside of the pit stop, he would race back up to P12 with some strong overtakes of Daniel Ricciardo and Valterri Bottas. It was a solid performance for Mangnussen after starting near the back end of the grid.
