Aramis Garcia
Aramis Garcia
28-Year-Old CatcherC
Oakland Athletics
2021 Fantasy Outlook
Garcia had spent his entire career in the San Francisco organization, earning two promotions in 2018 and 2019 and totaling 111 PA in that time. He hit six home runs around 52 strikeouts, and found himself exposed to waivers in November. The Rangers picked him up to add organizational depth at the catcher position. Garcia can run into a mistake, but more frequently, swings and misses in his pursuit of non-mistakes at the plate. He profiles perfectly as a backup catcher with all his limitations, and should not be treated as anything more on draft day. Catchers take a while to develop, but this 28-year-old's prospect status has faded from his high point as a top-15 prospect in the San Francisco organization two seasons ago. Read Past Outlooks

Smashes home run
COakland Athletics
May 23, 2021
Garcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Garcia started for Sean Murphy and took Hunter Strickland deep in the seventh to extend Oakland's lead to 4-0. Despite the the big hit, it would most likely take an injury to Murphy for Garcia to move into a bigger role.

Stat Review
How does Aramis Garcia compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Things were looking good for Garcia with Low-A Augusta, as he slashed .273/.350/.467 in 83 games before being promoted to High-A San Jose. His play took a turn for the worse with the promotion, as he looked overmatched, albeit in a small sample size, against the increased pitching difficulty at the next level (.227/.310/.280 in 20 games). Even with the late season struggles, Garcia is still considered one of the better hitting catching prospects in baseball. Getting to The Show as a regular will be tough if he stays with this organization, as the Giants have arguably the best catcher in baseball in Buster Posey along with a good young backup in Andrew Susac. If Garcia is able to get his bat back on track in the minors this season, he could be used as a bargaining chip at the trade deadline. If Garcia was moved to an organization in need of a catcher, his value in dynasty leagues would tick up, but he is still too far away to focus heavily on the big league depth chart.

Impressing in job battle
COakland Athletics
March 25, 2021
Garcia, who's hitting .333 (7-for-21) with four RBI across 11 Cactus League games, has impressed with both his bat and defense in his bid for the backup catcher job, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. "It's gotta be a tough spot to come in, especially as a catcher, to a new team and trying to get to know all the pitchers and seeing what they do and don't like to do," pitcher Daulton Jefferies said. "He's extremely mature and knows the game. He's just fun to throw to."
