Has shot at player pool

Puason is projected to be a part of the Athletics' 60-man player pool that will report to the team's summer camp, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gallegos relays a report from MLB.com colleague Jesse Sanchez, who had a source confirm to him that the 17-year-old is slated to get his first taste of a big-league camp beginning July 1. Puason was considered one of the most talented members of the 2019 international signing class, and he secured an impressive $5.1 million bonus last summer. Puason may well be a bit wide-eyed alongside the large contingent of much more experienced, older players, but the fact the organization wants to invest a spot in the young Dominican underscores how talented a prospect he is.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
Few teenage prospects look the part of a future star shortstop more than the switch-hitting Pusaon when he is taking batting practice or doing fielding drills. However, there have been essentially zero reports to suggest his hit tool is anywhere close to ready for an assignment befitting his J-2 pedigree -- he signed for the same amount as Jasson Dominguez on July 2, 2019 and was once the more hyped amateur prospect. The A's have a pretty weak farm system and Puason had yet to play in any official games since signing, so they brought him to the alternate training site where he was understandably overmatched against pitchers who were often over four years older than him. He has a cannon of an arm, plus speed and a lean, athletic 6-foot-3, 165-pound frame, so everything on his scouting report is glowing except his current hit tool and game power. Don't be surprised if he struggles in his age-18 season.
Puason was once viewed as the top prospect in the 2019 international signing class, but by the time July 2 came and he officially signed with the A's for $5.1 million, he was a distant second (behind Jasson Dominguez), and Erick Pena has since passed him as well. A 6-foot-3, 165-pound shortstop from the Dominican Republic, Puason has plenty of room to fill out his frame without compromising his athleticism, but he has a lot of work to do as a hitter, specifically with regard to his approach and pitch recognition. If his development is a success over the next few years, he will start to look like a 20/20 shortstop prospect, thanks plus speed and average or better raw power. Sometimes the best prospects in a J-2 signing class will bypass the Dominican Summer League, but Puason, who turned 17 in September, should be assigned there and may not make his stateside debut until 2021.
