Optioned to Triple-A
SSColorado Rockies  AAA
March 12, 2024
The Rockies optioned Carreras to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Patrick Lyons of Just Baseball reports.
ANALYSIS
Carreras reached Albuquerque last season but had a down year overall in posting a .664 OPS, so he'll receive more development time. The 24-year-old should be Albuquerque's regular shortstop.

2020 Fantasy Outlook
Toolsy Rockies prospects will rightfully generate dynasty-league interest, and Carreras is the best of that subset in the lower levels of the minors. It's not a huge knock that he spent his age-18 season (2018) in the Dominican Summer League -- 16-17 is age appropriate for good prospects on that circuit -- since the Rockies don't have a GCL or AZL affiliate. He took full advantage of the hitter-friendly conditions of the Pioneer League, logging a 120 wRC+ with five home runs while finishing third in the league with 14 steals, albeit on 22 attempts. He also led the league with eight triples. At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, he figures to end up at third base, although he can play all over the infield. Carreras projects to grow into more power to go with his plus speed, although he may slow down as he fills out. His stock will either soar or plummet based on how he handles a more challenging assignment this year.
