Inconsistent ways continue
Kang lost to John Castaneda via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 295 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
In what was a pick 'em fight, this was a thoroughly underwhelming performance from Kang on multiple fronts. He seemed hesitant to consistently let his hands go despite having a significant size advantage over Castaneda. Kang did land a couple big shots, but they were few and far between, and he was almost always one-and-done. Now 36 years of age, Kang didn't fight at all from September 2014 to January 2018 because of mandatory military service in his native South Korea. He's 6-3 in nine fights since returning, but just 2-2 in his past four dating back to November 2021.

ANALYSIS
Kang, who has reigned victorious in five of his last six fights, will look to keep his streak alive against John Castaneda in November. The 35-year-old South Korean fighter has amassed a record of 8-3 during his time with the UFC.

Improves to 5-1 in past six
Kang defeated Cristian Quinonez via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:25 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 47 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Another excellent showing from "Mr. Perfect." Entering as a surprising +125 underdog, Kang went blow-for-blow with Quinonez in the early going, eventually cracking his opponent with a few shots which forced him to the mat. Kang jumped into top position, at which point Quinonez gave up his back in trying to escape. Kang expertly clamped on the rear-naked choke which closed the show. Now 35 years of age, Kang's career was really impacted by the pandemic. He's won five of his last six fights, but those half-dozen bouts date back to February 2019. Kang needs to get back in the Octagon as soon as possible given his age.
