Crushing loss to Carlston Harris
Wells lost to Carlston Harris via submission (anaconda choke) at 1:50 of Round 3 at UFC on ESPN 50 on Saturday in Nashville.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. In a fight which went off as a pick 'em, Wells dominated from the very start. He powered forward and landed repeated, uncontested takedowns in each of the first two rounds and kept Harris pinned to the mat in the process. He tried the same thing early in Round 3, but left his next exposed. Harris rolled over and clamped on the anaconda choke, eventually putting Wells to sleep. Jeremiah had won each of his first four UFC bouts -- including three via stoppage -- so his roster spot isn't in jeopardy, but set to turn 37 years of age in late-October, this was a setback Wells simply could not afford.

Set to fight Harris
Wells is slated to face off against Carlston Harris at UFC Nashville on Aug. 5, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Wells, who defeated Matthew Semelsberger in April, will take on Carlston Harris in August. The 36-year-old fighter is off to a 4-0 start in his UFC career, and he will face off against another newcomer gaining momentum in Harris at UFC Nashville.

Remains perfect in UFC
Wells defeated Matthew Semelsberger via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This fight was nowhere near as close as the "split decision" term would lead you to believe. Yes, Wells was officially knocked down in each of the first two rounds, but his grappling was so good that the end result never appeared to be in doubt. Wells fired off 10 takedown attempts, landing six of them. Those half-dozen successful tries turned into a whopping 11:12 worth of control time. Wells' wrestling was so good that he was credited with no less than 3:09 worth of control time in each of the three frames. A perfect 4-0 since arriving in the company in June 2021, the UFC needs to give Wells a bump up in competition his next time out. He'll be 37 years of age in late-October, so the runway here is limited despite Wells' hot start.

Next fight scheduled for April
Wells is set to fight Matthew Semelsberger at UFC Vegas 71 on April 22, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Wells will look to keep his perfect UFC record intact in just over a month's time after taking down Court McGee via KO (punch) during his last appearance in June. The 36-year-old has won two fights via KO and another via submission and will have his work cut out for him against Semelsberger, who is coming off the biggest victory of his career after defeating Jake Matthews via unanimous decision back in December.
