Mason Jones

The Dragon

Wales

Falls as massive favorite
LightweightUFC
July 23, 2022
Jones lost to L'udovit Klein via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. A native of Wales, Jones had the crowd behind him in what was essentially a home game and still managed to be swept on the scorecards despite entering as an overwhelming -390 favorite. Jones was fairly competitive in Round 1, although he lost the frame. The roof came crashing in early in Round 2 when Klein scored a knockdown. Seemingly oblivious to the fact he needed a stoppage in Round 3 order to win, Jones comfortably spent much of the frame on his back, allowing Klein to dictate the action. It was a woeful display of fight IQ you simply cannot get away with at this level. Jones has more talent than his 1-2 (1NC) record in four UFC bouts would lead you to believe, but this was a clear and overwhelming setback for the 27-year-old.

Jones is set to fight L'udovit Klein at UFC London on July 23, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.

"The Dragon" will be looking for his second straight win as he previously defeated David Onama at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas back Oct. 23, 2021.

Secures first UFC victory
LightweightUFC
October 23, 2021
Jones defeated David Onama via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Originally scheduled to face Brazilian Alan Patrick in a rematch following a no-contest between the two this past June, Jones had no issues with the debuting Onama after Patrick was forced to withdraw due a COVID-19 issue. Onama proved to be competitive in the stand-up, but Jones simply overwhelmed him with his wrestling. Over the course of the 15-minute bout, Jones racked up 9:01 worth of control time on 8-of-14 takedown attempts. The 26-year-old needs to work on his striking defense, but there's some power here in addition to a solid wrestling base. It's Jones' first UFC victory in three tries.
