November 27, 2021
Dariush will fight against Islam Makhachev in a lightweight bout on Feb. 26, according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Dariush is coming off a huge victory against Tony Ferguson earlier this year and is set to take on what's probably one of the biggest fights of his career when facing an elite opponent in Makhachev. Dariush will put his seven-fight winning streak on the line in this matchup.

Cruises past Tony Ferguson
LightweightUFC
May 15, 2021
Dariush defeated Tony Ferguson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 262 on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
It's the biggest victory of Dariush's professional career, and it came in resounding fashion. There's no doubt a victory over Ferguson these days means far, far less than even 12 months ago, but Dariush blew past him without issue. He easily forced Tony to the mat on multiple occasions and kept him pinned there for the near entirety of the bout. Beneil has had problems in the past with both starting slowly and being a bit sleepy at times inside the Octagon, but he appears to have corrected both of those issues. He's always been extremely technical and had underrated stopping power in his hands. He's extremely heavy and difficult to dislodge if he ends up in top position, and he has eight career wins via submission. In summary, Dariush is a top-tier lightweight and is seemingly no more than one additional victory away from a shot at UFC gold.
Makes weight on second attempt
LightweightUFC
May 14, 2021
Dariush weighed in at 156.0 pounds for his co-main event matchup against Tony Ferguson at UFC 262 on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Dariush initially missed his mark by a half pound, but was given an extra hour to cut the weight by the commission and successfully was able to make the lightweight limit for a non-title fight. He remains a betting favorite of approximately -155 (or greater) as of Friday morning.
Will face Ferguson in May
LightweightUFC
March 12, 2021
Dariush and Tony Ferguson are expected to fight at UFC 262 on May 15, Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie reports.
ANALYSIS
Dariush and Ferguson are entering this fight on opposite sides of the spectrum as Dariush is currently riding a six-fight win streak while Ferguson has been defeated in back-to-back bouts. The 31-year-old most recently defeated Diego Ferreira via split decision at UFC Fight Night on Feb. 6 and has earned the opportunity to fight a big-time competitor such as Ferguson. Dariush has a slight disadvantage in height and reach but has momentum on his side and will look to carry that into the Octagon in a few short months.
Continues roll in Vegas

February 6, 2021
Dariush defeated Diego Ferreira via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Make it six wins in a row for Dariush, who is without a defeat in nearly three years. Traditionally known as a slow starter, Dariush got off quickly on Saturday and it almost certainly won him the fight. It a bout in which both men were credited with 74 total strikes landed, it was Dariush's five successful takedowns that ended up being the difference. Those five takedowns led to 7:23 worth of control time, and while Dariush was never close to finishing the fight, the control time limited Ferreira's ability to generate consistent offense of his own. Dariush tends to be laid back and rarely make waves, but he took a shot at the UFC's matchmaking in his post-fight interview. Quite frankly, he deserves a high-end opponent his next time out. Dariush was briefly linked to a fight against Charles Oliveira late last year before it ultimately fell apart. Maybe a bout with someone like Tony Ferguson would make some sense. Dariush more than deserves his opportunity. At the very least, he has to be pleased with the $50,000 check he'll be going home with after this bout was awarded Fight of the Night honors.

Dariush will take on Diego Ferreira (undisclosed) in a lightweight matchup at a UFC event scheduled for Feb. 6, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Dariush will put his five-fight winning streak on the line in early Feburary in a rematch of a bout from 2014. Dariush most recently defeated Scott Holtzman via KO (spinning backfist) at UFC on ESPN+ 32 in August. Ferreira has won his last six fights, but he hasn't entered the Octagon since January, when he defeated Anthony Pettis via submission (rear-naked choke) at UFC 246. Dariush has an edge in height, but Ferreira has a slight advantage in reach.
