Routed in Vegas opener
WelterweightOther
October 15, 2022
Jackson lost to Pete Rodriguez via KO (strikes) at 1:33 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Jackson will be turning 38 years of age in late March, but this was just his fourth professional fight, all of which have come with the UFC. He was submitted by Mickey Gall in 45 seconds in his debut in 2016, defeated C.M. Punk in 2018 before the decision was changed to a no-contest, earned his first official pro win via DQ over Dean Barry this past April, and was obliterated by Rodriguez in this one. The UFC roster is deeper than ever, and although the company holds an event nearly every single week, it's difficult to see what exactly they have to gain by running Jackson back out there. The odds are against him getting a fifth opportunity.
Fourth UFC fight set for Oct. 15
WelterweightOther
August 15, 2022
Jackson will take on Pete Rodriguez at the UFC event on Oct. 15, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jackson last was in the Octagon in April when he took on Dean Barry, but his opponent was disqualified for an eye gouge. Jackson was 1-1 in his first two UFC bouts. Rodriguez will look to bounce back after falling in his UFC debut in January.
First pro win comes via DQ
WelterweightOther
April 23, 2022
Jackson defeated Dean Barry via DQ (eye gouge) at 3:52 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's the first professional win of Jackson's career in what was just his third career fight. That is not a misprint. He made his UFC/pro debut back in February 2016 and was submitted by Mickey Gall in 45 seconds. He went on to defeat C.M. Punk 2.5 years later before that resulted was changed to a no-contest. Jackson has been on the sidelines ever since. Jackson was getting beaten up by Barry, but two horrendous fouls (one low blow and one eye gouge) resulted in the latter eventually being disqualified by referee Chris Tognoni when Jackson was unable to continue. There is an overwhelming likelihood this goes down as the "highlight" of Jackson's UFC run, but at least he's in the official win column.
New date with Dean Barry
WelterweightOther
January 16, 2022
Jackson is scheduled to fight Dean Barry in a welterweight bout at UFC's April 23 event, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport Nederland reports.
ANALYSIS
The pair were originally set to face each other in January 2020, but the bout was pushed back twice before ultimately being canned. Barry is set to make his UFC debut, while Jackson hasn't been in the Octagon since his 2018 win over CM Punk, which was overturned and ruled a no contest.
Needs new opponent
WelterweightOther
March 28, 2021
Jackson needs a new opponent for May 1 due to Dean Barry's withdrawal, Andy Hickey of The MMA Opinion reports.
ANALYSIS
Jackson and Barry already had their fight rescheduled once, after having initially been set for UFC Fight Island on Jan. 20. With the May 1 card only days away, it remains to be seen whether the UFC will find a short-notice opponent to replace Barry.
